I’ve kept some kind of sketchbook/journal for most of my life and there was always an ebb and flow as to how useful it would be. Right now I so appreciate these little tools. maybe it’s partially the wintertime, but having a place to sink into at anytime to think-feel-figure-write and reflect is a true luxury of the best kind. Here’s an initial concept for one of a couple site specific works I’m making with catskillwaters . This one will be planted next to a defunct coke machine. It’ll passively collect water and incorporate the almost certain repeated vandalism that will come its way. Owner Paul Hnatiw tells us—his store is the only gun AND convenience store in the county. The name of the store, 3 Goldens, refers to Golden Retrievers he used to breed. He no longer does that professionally but he still has his own dogs.

I am feeling as elated seeing this image on my feed as I’m terrified. My heart is beating faster as I wonder what Paul will think of this. Feels like this project is doing exactly what it was intended to do, but I wasn’t quite prepared for what it would look like in real life. But that’s what art is all about.
