Taking in the last of our beloved tropicals before the inevitable frost that will come. But for right now I’m really pleased with how this container at the red house filled out and how the vignette developed around it. Turning a huge steel duct into the centerpiece of our garden is just one of the fun ah-ha things we cultivate constantly around our home and gardens to great effect. .

Scenes from the garden. Every year the plants put on a different show with many of the same characters while new stars emerge… the veg garden is prepped and planned for a tightly packed cohabitation of greens, cucumbers, tomatillos, corn, squash beans, and of course tomatoes. Then any inch not filled will have flowers. The Chestnut tree blooms at the stream looking like some fantastical planet earth we live on.

This saturated and stormy August has been a bit of a damper on our foraging & outdoor work but our gardens are absolutely thriving in it. The tropicals we interplanted with the grasses and shrubs are bursting with all the humidity and moist soil. The Red House looks like it’s beginning to be engulfed by the garden and that’s just the way we like it. .
